Project Description
New Bedford sits at the terminus of the future South Coast Rail MBTA Commuter Rail extension. New Bedford is one of Massachusetts' gateway cities, which are historically underinvested historic cities. The goal of New Bedford's Transit-Oriented-Development (TOD) Design Guidelines and Zoning is to balance new housing, economic development, historic character, and a vibrant public realm.
My Role
I took over the finalization of the project. Previous urban design guidelines were often too wordy and had no visuals. I decided to use what I learned from previous projects and create a more visual-based guideline with enforceable Standards and softer Guidelines (Encourage/Discourage).
